A client called who had completely filled their iMac 8’1 hard drive and the machine wasn’t running very well to say the least!
Operating systems require a certain amount of free space on the hard drive to work efficiently and as a rule you should never let your boot drive fill up past 90% capacity.
The solution chosen in this case was to replace the existing 250Gb hard drive with a 3Tb drive (that’s 3,000Gb).
Replacing the drive wasn’t immediately straight forward however! To access the guts of the beast the glass front had to be carefully lifted out with suction cups as it is held in place by magnets!
Once this initial hurdle had been overcome, replacing the hard drive was straight forward and after a data transfer the machine was back to full health with oodles of free storage space!
